Episode 12
Babysitting
The living room.
It's early morning. Chet and Tito are watching TV. Milton is reading a newspaper, Penn is tuning his guitar.
P: D... No, D. D! Damn this D-string!
The string becomes loose.
P: Damn it, guys!
T: D is for damn it!
C: Look at you go, Penn! I didn't know you had it in you to get her in tune.
P: Screw you! If you're just gonna brag, why don't you try it yourself!
Penn hands Chet the guitar. He tunes it without problem.
C: The egg done whipped the chicken! The chicken didn't even practice, y'all.
Penn's baffled. A knock on the door.
P: I wonder who that could be?
Penn gets the door.
In the kitchen.
Madison is at the door.
Ma: We're having guests over!
Two young boys, George and Mickey are at the door. They are Madison's cousins.
Ge: Maddie!
Mi: Hi, Maddie!
Madison hugs her cousins.
Ma: Always good to see you, boys!
Penn stands in the kitchen.
Ge: Who's that, Maddie?
Ma: A roommate.
P: Hey there, little guys.
Mi: Topple him over!
George and Mickey jump on Penn, all three of them fall.
P: Hey, stop that!
Milton growls.
M: For God's sake, bloody ankle-biters!
Ma: Language!
Milton grins sheepishly.
M: Excuse me.
C: Awesome, kiddos.
T: Why don't we have a yarn with them, eh?
Penn gets up from the ground.
P: Why don't we take them out to... I don't know where. Little guys?
Ge: Mickey wanted to go to the playground!
Mi: And George wanted ice-cream!
George and Mickey talk over each other.
P: Okay, fine! We'll just go the the playground, then get some ice cream!
Milton puts the newspaper away, Tito snatches it fast.
M: What on earth?!
T: Have a looky, b'ys!
Tito points at an advertisement of a theme park, Deertown.
T: The Deertown Fun Park, eh?
Mickey and George's eyes grow big, a rainbow background pops up.
Ge: I always wanted to go to a theme park!
Mi: Me too!
Ge: We're making a pickle there!
Mi: A pickle, a hundred and four sure!
M: We always used to say cocksure...
P: Probably something in their slang.
C: Okay then! Listen here, I rented a bus for the party tomorrow, but why don't we just go for a ride right now?
M: You're a rubbish driver! You managed to drive on a flyover last time! An open flyover, no less!
C: We got sky-high, I'll tell you what.
T: Last one down the stairs is a rotten sculpin!
Tito, George and Mickey run out of the apartment.
P: Hey, wait!
Penn gives chase after them.
C: Angie, Maddie? Care to join?
A: Why not.
Ma: Nothing to do today, I'm free.
C: Come on, Milt!
Everyone leaves the apartment.
At the theme park gates...
The bus stops at the gates.
C: Alright then, y'all pile out! I gotta go look for a parking spot.
Chet drives away, he calls out from the bus.
C: Little fellas, Uncle Penn's lookin' out for ya!
P: Yeah, you're just running away from responsibility, dummy!
M: Bugger him. Let's go in, shall we?
Ge: Yeah! Mickey, let's go with Uncle Penn!
T: Where to? The bouncy castles, or maybe the merry-go-round, or what?
Ge&Mi: The merry-go-round!
T: Last one there is a vulture!
Tito and the little boys run away.
P: I was supposed to take care of them!
Ma: They'll run out of steam soon, Penn.
A: Mind look over here, Penn! The horror section!
Angie points at a purple tent with bats.
P: I see.
A: Aye, let's go!
P: But we were to look after your cousins.
A: Tito'll look after them! Don't hang aboot!
Angie takes Penn to the tent. It's Milton and Madison by themselves now.
M: Looks like it's only us now.
Madison yawns.
Ma: Wanna grab a coffee?
M: Spot on, I noticed a café just round the corner. Fancy a breather from the blinking idiots? Our chaps, I mean, not the little fellas.
Ma: Lead the way.
Milton and Madison pass by an ice-cream stand. A deer mascot is dancing by the stand.
M: Hey, mascot! Fancy guiding us to the café?
The mascot points at the "Synergy Sludge" café.
Ma: Not the best sounding name.
M: I've seen worse.
Ma: Thanks, deer.
Madison pets the deer on the head, it waves its front legs. Milton and Madison walk away.
The merry-go-round.
Tito, George and Mickey are on the merry-go-round, everyone laughing.
Ge: I'm the king of the sky!
Mi: Hundred and four!
Mickey waves his hands.
T: What's up with that saying, anyways?!
Ge: You didn't see these Megagrab reels?! Everyone says "a hundred and four" now! It's trendy!
T: Missed them, but I get the gist, pal!
The merry-go-round stops. All three of them get off.
T: Where to now, kiddos?
George thinks.
Mi: George, look! A Bububu stand!
In front of the merry-go-round there is a stand with cups. A guest by the counter pitches the ball, knocking off some cups. The worker gives them a primitive, disgusting plushie.
G: We need to win this Bububu, uncle Tito! We'll have a lot of respect in school!
T: Milton always said them Bububu dools were a right waste of wool!
Mi: He's just stupid! Bububu rocks!
George steps up to the stand.
DT: Step right up, step right up!
The Deertown worker hands George a ball.
DT: Knock all of them cups, and you win!
George throws the ball, it flies in an unnatural direction, knocking down only a few cups.
DT: Bad luck! Next, please!
Mickey steps up. Tito hangs around, he notices an electrical plug. He follows it to find a fan inside.
T: A-ha!
Mickey throws the ball, he misses as well.
DT: Sorry! Next one!
Tito unplugs the fan. The Deertown worker notices him.
DT: What are you doing in here?
T: My turn, pal!
DT: Go back in line!
Tito stands in the line.
Ge: Come on, uncle!
Tito spins his arm, he throws the ball. The ball bounces around, knocking over all the cups on three different stands, only for it to pierce the trailer's wall in the end.
T: Yes, yes, yes! Gimme three of them, pal!
The worker sighs, he hands Tito three dolls.
Ge: Awesome!
T: My first Bububu doll!
Ge: And this one's our fifth!
Mi: My doll has blue fur!
Ge: And mine has green!
George's stomach rumbles.
Ge: Uncle Tito, can we hit up a Moroccan deluxe stand?
Mi: Awesome, I want me some Moroccan deluxe!
T: Look at the stand over there, eh? Fill your boots!
Tito, George and Mickey walk away.
The purple tent.
The camera flies inside, there's a dim haze inside. A close-up of the plastic castle, smoke coming out of a generator. Penn and Angie walk out from the left.
P: Those are some cheap jumpscares! See the motion sensor on the roof?
?: Get out... while you still can... Get-
Penn unplugs a speaker.
P: See what a mean? Such kitsch.
A: I pure love this kitschen gear.
P: And the kitsch horrors?
A: Good horrors aren't aboot the costumes, they need to keep the viewer pure tense!
P: Well, you're right. But still, nothing can scare me.
A cheap clown jumps out of the dark door.
Cl: Muehehe!
Penn jumps, Angie giggles.
A: You see, folk aren't feart of what they can see. They're feart of what they aren't expecting.
P: I can expect something jumping from around the corner, like...
Penn points at the same door.
P: Now!
Nothing jumpscares him. There is a window by the door, the same clown emerges from it.
Cl: Hehe!
Penn falls down, scared.
P: Okay, I'm pussying out!
He gets up.
P: Anyway, what was the deal with these little plushies you used to talk about in the bus earlier?
A: Aye, I just bought myself a wee peerie thing, take a look at that!
Angie shows him a keychain with a little black cat with a pink bowtie on it's head.
A: Nonomi is my absolute wee fave! Pure barrie, I love it!
Chet is walking along the tent.
C: I parked her already.
P: What took you so long?
Chet mocks Penn.
C: "What took you so long?!" And what are you up to, some bargain-bin scary movies?
A: Oh, check you, the absolute film buff!
P: Whatcha holding there?
Chet is carrying a bucket with deer antlers under his armpit. He shows it to Penn.
C: A bucket.
He puts it on his head. Angie bursts out laughing.
C: Gonna go grab a coffee, care to come with?
P: Er... catch you later.
Chet walks away.
At the Synergy Sludge cafe.
The Director is sitting outside. He's holding a piece of cotton candy in his left hand, and a clipboard with scenarios in his right.
TD: Fair point.
He puts the cotton candy away, scribbling something on his clipboard.
TD: It's the kids that first know that the world is idiotic.
Chet walks by.
TD: And the adults keep thinking that it's ironic.
Chet stops.
C: So, can we put a stop to that?
TD: Not on a day off.
Someone chuckles in the background. The camera pans out, there's Madison and Milton at an adjacent table.
Ma: But I can't make one thing out, why are you always so uptight?
M: 'Cause the world is always in a proper tangle.
TD: Today it's entangled in cotton candy.
Milton looks at The Director's cotton candy. Penn and Angie sit down at a table in the background.
TD: Sweet, another topic to write about. But maybe later.
The Director turns a page, he writes something down. Right in front of them, Tito and the girls' cousins run by. George is holding a doll, Mickey's holding a giant piece of cotton candy.
Gr: We'll make a pickle!
(Mi: Hundred and four sure!)
Everyone looks at the running boys!
TD: It seems they've just found their place.
C: Who ya writin' about now?
TD: Not you, my bro is still in charge of you.
In the restrooms.
Milton stands in front of the dirty sink. Filthy, yellow walls. Dirty paper on the floor.
M: I feel like I'll contract the plague if I touch anything in this utterly rank room.
Milton turns the water on, a faint stream flows. No paper in the dispenser. He sighs, a cabin behind him opens.
M: Hello?
He notices some horns in the mirror. He turns around quickly, there's a deer head stuffed in the toilet bowl. A fake plastic look.
M: What on earth is going on?
The main doors open up with a bang. A mop on the floor. A baked Danny looks up at Milton. The former is wearing a worker's vest.
Da: That's aura, brother...
M: What aura?
Da: You look like you were fighting a demon.
M: The demon in question popped out of the cabin.
Milton points at the deer head in the toilet.
M: So, what are you up to here, then?
Da: Running short on cash, and the stuff is getting costly! Just a weekend job.
Danny is running the mop across the floor.
Da: Have you ever thought that a mop is like your soul's elongation?
M: You're talking bollocks.
Da: Hey, no, listen! I'm with God! But... like a neutral one. Want some?
Danny offers Milton a joint.
M: Not today, I've got kids doing my head in.
Da: Right.
Milton washes his face. Danny turns around, he breaks a mirror with the mop.
M: Oop, seven years of tidying.
Da: Of course.
Danny mops the broken glass. A man walks out of the cabin, he looks at the high Danny and the deer head in the toilet.
M2: No comment.
He leaves the restroom.
The theme park.
Madison and Angie walk around.
Ma: Had fun in the park?
A: Where though?
Ma: On the castle?
A: Aye, Penn's getting the lads.
Milton joins them.
M: Are we off just now? Blimey, I'm going to miss this absolute madhouse.
Ma: Anyone saw the kids?
A: Over here, aye!
Angie points at the ferris wheel. The gondolas stop. Tito and the boys are in one of them.
Ge: Again, again!
Mi: Please, uncle Tito, one more time!
T: Alright! One last time.
Danny walks up to the control panel.
Da: I see... the lights.
Milton, Angie and Madison run up to the ferris wheel. Madison trips Danny, he falls on the panel. The panel beeps like crazy. The bells ring, the machine goes into testing mode.
Machine: Testing mode - full speed.
The ferris wheel speeds up drastically,
T: I said the last time!
The ferris wheel shakes. The people in the gondolas look at each other. The wheel speeds up frantically, everyone is screaming.
Mi: TOTALLY WICKED!
Gr: THAT'S AWESOME, UNCLE!
T: Hold on tight!
Screws are coming loose from the ferris wheel, the gondolas are sent flying. One flies just in front of Tito.
M3: Give me back my money!
Tito's gondola breaks off, it flies in slow-motion, everyone is screaming out of excitement.
A fried chicken stand.
Penn leaves the stand with a bucket with antlers.
P: Good chicken, I was about to starve...
A shadow appears above Penn. He stops in a sandbox.
P: What is that?!
A loud crash, the gondola lands on top of Penn. The steel roof bends, a lot of sand in the air. George and Mickey pop their heads out.
Ge: Again, again!
Mi: A hundred and four times!
Tito stumbles, he falls head first into the sand.
T: Gobble, gobble, eh?
Chet walks up.
C: What's all the ruckus about?
Something stratches Chet's leg. He pulls out Penn by the arm.
P: It all came crashing down...
Tito gets his head out of the sand, shaking off like a dog. He spits out a clump of sand. Milton, Madison and Angie run to them.
M: Good Lord!
Ma: Are you alright?
Madison gets her cousins out.
Ge: We're fine!
Danny is standing in the background, looking at the crushed gondola. He's holding a mop, like a chapelain after a ritual.
Da: The aura was getting tense...
He bobs his head in the mop bucket, shaking his hair dry.
Da: Gee! I'm never smoking again on the job.
Danny walks away. An angry theme park boss can be heard over the loudspeakers.
Ls: How did they manage to trash the whole place in three hours? How, damn it?! You were supposed to look after the guests, you were doing jackshit!
Everyone looks at the loudspeakers. The boss clears his throat, he speaks in a much calmer voice.
Ls: Dear theme park guests. The Deertown Fun Park is closing down until further notice. May I ask you to... GET THE FUCK OUT?!
Everyone stands in silence.
C: Woo wee! Time to head on home.
Everyone leaves.
By the tenement...
Mickey and George hop out of the bus.
Mi: Thanks for the ride!
The little boys run to their parents' car.
C: I'm really gonna miss those sweet little smilin' peeps.
A: Some peace and quiet for a wee while, at last.
Ma: At least until someone burns the toaster.
M: Or breaks their bed.
Chet looks at Milton.
M: Yes, I'm talking about you!
P: Come on in, I need some rest.
Ma: So do I.
Everyone goes inside the tenement. Tito barges outside.
T: I see something, over here!
P: What is it?
Tito picks a piece of paper up, Penn reads it.
P: Meet me at the old warehouse, tomorrow. It's urgent. Signed "TC". Was it you, Tito?
T: That's none of my writing!
P: If it's not yours, whose is it?
T: I don't know!
The Creator's flat.
A view from the tenement's CCTV footage. The Creator is sitting at his desk, back towards the camera. He rests a can on the desk. He gets a call.
TC: Bro.
(TD: What are you doing, man?! You're freaking me out with your plan!)
TC: Don't bother me, you wouldn't get it.
He hangs up. Crony walks up to him.
Cr: Are we ready?
TC: Yes.
Cr: Where?
TC: Zone One.
Cr: You've got to be kidding.
TC: Oh, I'm not.
Cr: Yeah, yeah. One giant decrepit, piss-stained warehouse, what's the worst that could happen?
TC: Nothing to us.
Crony looks around the room.
Cr: What are going to do with them?
TC: A quick hypnosis and a quick insert back into the digital world will do the trick.
Cr: Wouldn't it be better to just-
TC: I'm the brain of the operation.
Cr: Whatever you say, smarty-pants.
Cut to black.
TC: Why resist? I can still show them, what I can. There might be no tomorrow for them.
End of episode 12.
